Care for Yard with Tree & Stump Removal

Recently Lost Some Trees? Wondering What’s Next?

Trees are a wonderful part of a landscape. They add beauty, they add privacy and they provide shade. However, while trees definitely offer a number of benefits, when they are dead they can cause a host of problems. There’s no telling when a dead tree will topple over, but it’s a pretty safe bet that it will fall at some point - dropping a steady supply of dead branches in the meantime. There are many reasons why it is recommended to tend to your yard by removing dead trees and grinding the stumps sooner rather than later.

Benefits to Dead Tree Removal

  • Dead Trees & Branches Can Be Dangerous - As a tree decays, the roots could pull up in a strong wind. A falling tree could damage your house, fence, other trees, or injure your family and pets. The same goes for the branches themselves. As a tree decomposes, they are also a liability if they land on your neighbor’s property or in the street. As a concern for safety, it is best to act quickly.
  • Sick Trees Spread Trouble - If your tree died from a tree disease or infestation, it can pass it along to other trees These diseases are often airborne infections and the pests will make their home in one tree after another which can affect your entire yard. They can be extremely difficult to control once they start to spread, so nipping them in the bud  when they are still in a single tree could save your landscape.
  • Dead Trees Are Unattractive - Having a rotting tree in your yard can hurt your curb appeal significantly. Whether or not you may be trying to sell your house, you want to property to look its best.  Do the neighborhood a favor and beautify your lawn by removing that dead vegetation.

Fill in the Gap

If there’s a tree in your yard that’s dead, dying, diseased, or poses a potential risk, you probably have plans to remove it. When you lose a tree, it can take its toll on the aesthetics of your outdoor living space. Suddenly, there’s an empty spot where there was once an abundance of life. Grinding the tree stump that’s left behind will improve the appearance of your yard. However, after stump grinding, you’re left with a hole full of wood chips. The restoration of your yard after tree and stump removal isn’t something you should jump into without a plan. It takes a little work to ensure the ground is in the best shape possible for whatever your plans include.

Landscaping Ideas After Tree Removal

  • Plant a New Tree - If you want to plant a new tree, you shouldn’t plant it in the exact location of the old tree because much of the root system will still remain and the soil may be stripped of nutrients essential to the growth of a sapling. It’s important to shift a new tree slightly to give it the best chance to thrive. Wait at least a year if you must plant a new tree in the same spot.
  • Restore the Soil and Plant Grass - To get the new grass started, prepare the ground by removing as many wood chips as possible. Fill the hole with a combination of nitrogen fertilizer, top soil and compost to slightly above the level of surrounding land. Then, sprinkle grass seed over the top, water thoroughly and cover with a thin layer of hay or straw and water regularly for best results. Keep in mind that it might take some time for the ground to settle enough to totally blend in with the rest of the lawn.
  • Build a Raised Flower Bed - This is a great way to cover up the newly made hole in the ground after a tree has been removed. Get as creative as you want when designing this new landscaping area. PINE BROOK can suggest ideas for the overall shape and hardscape edging/wall material such as large rocks or paver blocks.
